Deep within the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was essentially untarnished, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to care for his herd of rams.

Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the breezes among the solo tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day in day, guarding his charges inculcated in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

But, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plan.

Stories of wolves hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a trick on the villagers.

One morning he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but found no beast.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This trick persisted for a couple of more days. However, one noon, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently. website
